Eighty Volunteers Rebuilt the Town Playground in a Weekend

A bare lot, two flatbeds of timber, and a town that decided not to wait for the budget cycle.

A new wooden playground with a climbing frame and slide in a park

The old playground was condemned in February. The council's replacement was scheduled for the year after next.

A parents' group priced the timber, found a retired site foreman willing to supervise, and put up a sign asking for hands. Eighty people came.

It took a weekend and a Monday morning. The children were consulted on the design, which is why there are two slides and no swings.

The council has since adopted the plans as a template for three other villages.
